About Balcatta
Taken from the Aboriginal words "Bal" (meaning "his") and "Katta" (meaning "hill"). The area is recognized for its industrial and commercial areas, which are contrasted by many of the distinctive European styles of the remaining residential units and is one of the biggest suburbs in Perth.

There are two main streets that can be found in Balcatta-Jones Street and Amelia Street. A quick stroll around Balcatta reveals that the area is currently culturally diverse. Although most of the nationalities present in the suburb have shown their distinct styles, there are still some parts of Balcatta that have been divided into small villas or units.

One of the interesting points in Balcatta is the Jones Paskin Reserve, which serves as a cricket oval and home of the Balcatta Cricket Club. It is also utilized for other significant events by the local community.

There are a number of educational facilities found in Balcatta including the Balcatta Senior High School. Being the only high school institution in the area, it is considered as the most culturally diverse school in the city. One of the special offerings of the school is its Arts program that features Drama and Dance.

Other schools in Balcatta include the Takari Primary School, Kip McGrath Education Centre, West Balcatta Primary School and St. Lawrence's Primary School.

Balcatta lies north of Osborne Park and Tuart Hill, and south of Hamersley.
